Coming from
a family of entrepreneurs, David Scanlen
has an established and formidable reputation
in the self storage industry as a co owner
of the largest self storage brand in Australia,
Storage King.
Along with Michael Tate,
the two of them have risen from very small
and humble beginnings in 1998 to having
over 120 stores in Australia and New Zealand
today, and is one of the fastest growing
licensing and management operations in Australia.
David’s initial background
comes from management in PepsiCo and KFC
food chains, having gained experience there,
he then took a leap of faith into a little
known industry in self storage in the early
1990s, joining the Millers Self Storage
Group, bringing this company forward from
very bleak outlook to almost doubling its
business value and income.
Having achieved this,
he and Michael Tate decided to take a leap
of faith to start a franchising model based
on licensing and management in this industry
being Storage King. Today its growth figures
are staggering and surpassing even the most
conservative of estimates.

The
majority decision handed down by Fair
Work Australia in the equal remuneration
case today is a disturbing outcome that
must be quarantined. The
Australian Chamber of Commerce and
Industry is concerned about the cost
impact this ruling will have, not
only on government revenues, but on
the myriad of small and medium enterprises
in the community services sector.

January 24, 2012 The
January 2012 ACCI Survey of Investor
Confidence shows that most actual
and expected business indicators remained
relatively unchanged, if not lower,
over the December 2011 quarter, amidst
concerns about European sovereign
debt crisis, the slowdown in the Chinese
economy and the underlying weakness
in Australian non-mining industries.
With the exception of Expected Unemployment
Rate, all indicators have fallen below
their five year averages over the

22 February, 2011
“It is time
for both political parties to stop
the uncertainty in the lead up to
the election, and make a firm commitment
to completing the Chatswood to Parramatta
Rail Link,” said Willoughby
City Mayor, Pat Reilly.
Following the recent
federal election promise on the rail
link, Willoughby City Council is concerned
the project might be abandoned or
delayed by the Opposition and the
necessity of the link to the Chatswood
CBD might get overlooked once again.
